We are really pleased to announce that John Macdonald’s book about Rogart – the story of a Sutherland crofting parish – will once again be available in print.
The Heritage Society first published John’s 480-page book in 2002 and it proved to be so popular that a second edition was printed in 2007. It is packed full of local history, fascinating characters, wonderful photographs as well as some tall tales.
Content includes a double page map of the parish as well as contributions from Dr Michael Simpson, Peter Boa Sciberscross, Ian Reid Craggie, Jimmy MacKay Acheilidh, George Murray Morvich and many other fondly-remembered local folk.
Subject matter ranges from crofting to railways, from the parish’s involvement in the military to district nurses. Sports, pastimes, employment and schooling are covered and rural life from birth, to marriage and death.
Books cost £17.50 (plus postage and packing). Rates for p&p will be announced shortly. Payment will be by Paypal or cheque.
If you’d like to invest in a copy, please contact us via Facebook or the website contact form and we’ll message you back. These books are excellent value as second hand copies are currently selling for between £30 and £52 on Amazon!
