George Fraser

Private George Fraser was killed in action on 1 October 1918, aged 34.

George enlisted at Fort George, near Ardersier, served in the 8th Battalion, Scottish Rifles and his Regimental Number was 266450

In 1901 George was employed as a Postmaster’s Assistant, and by the 1911 census was a Post Office Clerk, lodging with the Post Master, Duncan Campbell.

Born in Rogart to parents William Fraser (Shepherd) and Margaret Munro of Myron’s Lane, Golspie. His home was given as Rogart.

George’s sacrifice is commemorated at Soissons Memorial, France, on the Rogart War Memorial Pittentrail and on the Golspie War Memorial.
