Alexander Sutherland

On 9 June 1918 Private Alexander Sutherland, was killed in action in France. He was 30 years of age.

Born on 20 January 1888 at Pittentrail, Rogart, son of John Sutherland (road surveyor) and Catherine née Sutherland. Alexander, enlisted at Bettyhill and served in 8th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, his regimental number being 241454.

He is buried in the Wanquetin Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Of the Craigton Sutherlands, he is also commemorated on the Rogart war memorial and on his parents’ gravestone at St. Callan’s churchyard, Rogart. He is also listed on the Kinlochbervie war memorial along with his brother John, Syre war memorial, in the Seaforth Highlanders Roll of Honour, and the Scottish National War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle.
