George Williamson

On 18 April 1918 Private George Williamson, son of Mrs. Williamson of the Poles Camp, Skelbo died of wounds in France.

Born in 26 Sept 1897 in Bridgend, Alness, Ross-shire to Peter Williamson and Jane (Jeanie) née McNeill. George, a pedlar, married Margaret (Maggie) McAllister in 1914 in Rogart.

George, who was of travelling folk, enlisted at Golspie and joined 9th (Pioneer) Battalion Seaforth Highlanders with the regimental number of S/16006. He was buried at Étaples Military Cemetery in France and memorialised on the Rogart war memorial, as a Cameron Highlander. 

His brother Isaac was killed in Flanders on 12 Oct 1917 aged 22 years.
