John Calder

Lance Corporal John Calder, was killed in action on 23 November 1917, aged 33, thought to be during an advance on enemy positions west of Cambrai.

John served with the 1/4th (Ross-Highland) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders T.F. and formerly with 5th Bn Seaforth Highlanders and his Regimental Number was 241360. He enlisted at Rogart.

Born in Dornoch in 1884, his parents were Donald and Ellen (Helen Sutherland) Calder of Tannachy, Rogart

John is commemorated at the Cambrai Memorial, France, on the Rogart War Memorial at Pittentrail and on the family headstone in St. Callan’s Old Churchyard, Rogart.
