Private Robert Mackay

On 26 December 1916 Private Alexander Robert MacKay died of tetanus at Rouen, France. He was aged 25.  Robert, as he was known, was the son of Donald MacKay (shepherd) and Catherine née Grant of Woodside, Rovie, Rogart. His sister, Kitty, married Colin Macdonald Murray MM.

Robert had enlisted in Thurso with 2nd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders and his regimental number was S/40007. He was awarded the War Medal and Victory Medal. It is thought that the picture may feature Robert, but it is not certain.
